Back in the Saddle

It has been a LONG time since I have posted to this blog ... I'm thinking having something like 6 blogs may be too much for me to handle ... seems like it doesn't it?

Well, now that I have logged back into blogger land I'm going to consider this fact. Whether I amalgamate into one blog or run all 6 remains to be decided but what has been decided is the fact that I'm back! I love blogging and I can't wait to dive back in to share all that I want to share through this medium!

Here's to a relatively fresh, new 2008!

Here's a bit of a teaser shot of some of my current blankets - my friend Bryony and I spent a night at the Fernwood Square Tuesday Night Market selling our wares this past summer - well more like displaying, there wasn't much selling going on. Those are Bryony's cute as a button hats in the basket and my first felted bag which I can't seem to get rid of.

Eggplant Babies

The whole idea of starting a little side project called "Eggplant Designs" came from the blankets I love to make for babies I know. These little gems are a flannel ruffled blanket and from what the moms have told me, they come in handy.

I've gifted four of these blankets and I LOVE to make them. I love to pick out the perfect material for each baby (or as the case may sometimes be, their parents), I love how quickly they sew up and I love how cute the ruffle is and how warm and cuddly they are.

Here are photos of the blankets I've made. The first photo is of the first Eggplant Baby, Aidan.

Aidan is the adorable baby of my friends Amy & Mark. He is now 14 months old and also received matching burpping pads I was able to make with leftover material.

The second Eggplant Baby is Isabella, Wade & Bryony's oh so cute cutie - thanks for the pic Bryony!

Eggplant Baby #3 is Rob - I haven't yet captured a photo of Rob and his blankie but here are two shots of the John Deere blanket I made for him last winter to give you a better idea of what they look like close up.

I also recently made a blanket for Eggplant Baby #4, our new niece Alexandra who was just born on September 12.

Here is a photo of her sweet little self:

And of her and her blankie all bundled up for nap time:

I'm looking forward to choosing material for another family Eggplant Baby in the near future as my sister is due with baby #3 in late December.

For the past few weeks I've been gathering more material, vintage finds and some cute contemporary and organic fabric, in preparation for a craft fair my friend Bryony and I will be attending on Sunday. I've got a bit more sewing to do before then, but I'm looking forward to seeing how the blankets are received. I'm also excited to use some labels I ordered to attach to my creations. I ordered these online from Carmen at Luscious Labels and I love them! (Sorry for the webcam quality photo.)

So that's the story of how Eggplant Designs came to be. I'm excited about keeping you up-to-date on new designs, fabrics and hopefully some news on a retail location or two!
